Beyond test tubes — what you can store
Despite the name, this generator is useful for far more than lab equipment:
- Drill bits: organise your drill bit set by diameter with labelled slots
- Pens and markers: keep drawing supplies upright and organised
- Small tools: store screwdrivers, files, picks and probes
- Pipettes and droppers: lab equipment storage that fits your drawer
- Vials and sample tubes: custom racks for any cylindrical container
Test tube holder parameters
- Grid X & Grid Y: choose any Gridfinity footprint from 1×1 to 5×5
- Tube Diameter: 5 mm to 100 mm — fit anything from micro-centrifuge tubes to 100 mL beakers
- Tube Depth: 10 mm to 200 mm — how deep the tube sits in the holder
- Wall Thickness: 0.8 mm to 5 mm — thinner for light items, thicker for heavy drill bits
- Floor Thickness: 0.8 mm to 5 mm — the bottom layer supporting the tubes
Holder styles
Two holder styles are available:
- Solid: a full block with holes bored into it — maximum stability, uses more filament
- Hex: a honeycomb-style frame with open sides — lighter, faster to print, good airflow
Gridfinity compatibility
Every test tube holder sits on a standard 42 mm Gridfinity grid pitch. It fits into any Gridfinity drawer, workbench or portable toolbox alongside your bin collection. The holder is compatible with Gridfinity baseplates (including magnetic and screw-together styles) and Clickfinity locking plates.
Quick-start presets
Four presets are included:
- 3×3 Gridfinity Solid: 15 mm tube diameter, 40 mm depth — general lab rack
- 5×2 Gridfinity Solid: 8 mm tube diameter, 30 mm depth — drill bit organiser
- 3×3 Minimal Hex: 15 mm tubes in the lightweight hex style
- 5×2 Minimal Hex: 8 mm tubes in hex style
Printing tips
- Print in PLA or PETG — both work well for holder applications
- Use 3+ wall loops for durability, especially for drill bit storage
- Enable brim if you are printing a large grid — prevents corner lift
- For hex style, infill percentage does not matter much — the walls provide the strength
