DIY John Deere Power Steering Cylinder Replacement – X Series Tractors (X575, X585, X595, X728, X748)
Replacing the power steering cylinder on a John Deere X Series tractor doesn’t have to be expensive or complicated. If you own an X575, X585, X595, X728, or X748, this guide will show you how to save time and money by doing it yourself.
After struggling with a worn-out cylinder on my X748, I decided to design a better, more reliable replacement. Not only did it restore smooth steering, and fix the leak, but it means that others that need a budget quality alternative can purchase locally in Brisbane, QLD, which will make the process quick and affordable.
Why I Decided to Design My Own Steering Cylinder for the X series tractor.
Instead of dropping fifteen hundred dollars on a part that I knew could be built better, I decided to design my own replacement steering cylinder.
A few goals I had in mind:
- Serviceable design – something I could rebuild or repair down the track, not just throw away.
- Stronger construction – a slightly more stout ram to handle long-term use.
- Direct bolt-on fit – no modifications, no headaches.
Manufacturing the Cylinder
After a bit of research, sourcing, and engineering, I had my own John Deere power steering cylinder replacement manufactured. It was built to OEM specifications, with the added bonus of being fully serviceable.
Key details:
- Compatible with John Deere X575, X585, X595, X728, and X748
- Replaces OEM part numbers AM147178 and AM129510
- Serviceable assembly for long-term use
- Locally stocked in Brisbane, QLD
The Installation – Bolt-On Success
When it arrived, I pulled out the old leaking cylinder, bolted in my new unit, and it fit perfectly — just like the original. Steering leak gone. Problem solved.
The best part? Instead of paying $1,500, I now had a stronger, rebuildable cylinder for alot less
Why I’m Sharing This
I know I’m not the only one frustrated by sky-high OEM parts prices. That’s why I’ve made these available for anyone else dealing with the same issue.
