4-Zone Wall Controller Faceplate Update: Working Toward a Cleaner Clipsal 2000 Series Style Look

One of the main pieces of feedback on the TekOnline 4-Zone Wall Controller has been straightforward: people like the control hardware, but they want a cleaner finished look on the wall.

The current controller is functional and practical, but we are now developing a new faceplate direction to make it look more at home in a finished residential install.

Its taught me a lot around design and prototyping. Here are some examples of what im learning along with some progress shots!

In the image above you will note two features. we have the faceplate snap on cover, and we have a ‘bezel’ of sorts along with a fill in piece. A neat thing with 3d printing and prototyping, is we can create just the parts we want to fine tune first. Then as we are happy with those parts, we add them to the final design. Im really happy with how the faceplate ‘snaps’ onto the main piece. Here is One where everything is assembled:

Im currently dialing in the mounting holes:

Things left on the list:

  • Get the pcb mounted so the buttons sit just proud of the surrounds.
  • Redesign the way the labels slide into the faceplate.
